The OTUS Project

In 2025, I started working with The OTUS Project capturing footage for an upcoming documentary produced by Paradeigm Films. While I usually work in photography, this has been an incredible opportunity to dive into videography.

OTUS (Observations of Tornadoes by UAV Systems) is a self-funded nonprofit founded by students in meteorology and engineering. They deploy drones equipped with custom sensors directly into tornadoes, gathering unprecedented close-range data to improve forecasts and protect lives and property. In 2024 and 2025, OTUS successfully intercepted multiple tornadoes across the US, capturing detailed storm measurements while collaborating with organizations like NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) and FARM (Field Analysis of Rotational Meteorology) to develop next-generation wind sensors.

Here’s a still from some of my work shot for the documentary showing a massive tornado that OTUS successfully flew a drone into, capturing footage and data from inside. You can see clips from OTUS on their Instagram.
