My name is Dorion, and I’m a photographer and storm chaser based in Lawrence, Kansas. I’m a postal worker by trade and have worked as a rural carrier for over 14 years. Cruising rural country roads delivering mail fueled my love for wide-open spaces.

I picked up my first Sony DSLR in 2016, determined to teach myself how to capture the beauty I saw every day. I started with landscapes and wildlife, and my curiosity and ambition to learn grew with every shot. I experimented with different styles early on, trying to figure out “the how” behind the amazing shots I’d see from others. That curiosity eventually led me to my favorite subject…

Storms.

Storm chasing started locally for me as storms are plentiful in Kansas, and early on I could step out onto my deck and shoot part of a storm from home. The first time I captured lightning was a magical experience. Eventually, staying around home wasn’t enough, and I started to expand my range.

I fell in love with the barren landscapes the storms would lead me to, sometimes driving for days to position myself where they might form, and waiting hours for the perfect shot. The awe and adrenaline of seeing a supercell or tornado form with your own eyes is indescribable. I’m lucky to call Kansas home and to witness incredible views here and across the Great Plains. This site is dedicated to those places and those fleeting moments.
